Although I live mainly on the East Coast, I continue to be entranced by the images of the rural West where I, in part, grew up.  The color, unique shapes of the landscape, and the powerful presence of the horses on my father’s ranch still form the core of my work.  Over the last few years, horses have reemerged as my primary subject, much as they had been 20 years ago.  I come back to horses now with a better command and understanding of their form and a renewed enthusiasm for their ability to provoke meaning, both metaphorically and directly.  The evocative power of a horse’s gesture may be much the same as a slight turn of the human head, full of possible narrative, and a sense of a shared world. It is my love of this subject that fuels my desire to create an image and to explore different ways of doing so through drawing, painting and sculpture.
